The Benefits of Digital Dentistry
3D Imaging
Standing in side the same machine that is used to take the full mouth, panoramic x-ray, our new dental imaging machine can produce a detailed 3D image of your mouth by taking approximately 220 images while circling your head. It works like a CT scan at the hospital, but at a fraction of the radiation and focuses solely on the mouth, making it more cost-effective for the patient.
Like our digital x-rays, this detailed 3D image can also be viewed on the computer screen, but allows Dr. Ripplinger to see any cross-section of the tooth or jaw, determine bone density and view sinus cavities and other structures in the mouth. It takes the guesswork out of dental implant surgery, ensuring the best placement for a lifetime solution to tooth replacement. It is also instrumental in other applications such as treating sleep apnea and orthodontics.
High-Resolution Intraoral Camera
A handheld intraoral (inside your mouth) camera gives you a live view of what’s going on with your teeth and gum health - as we see it! This tiny camera can zoom in X80 allowing for Dr. Ripplinger to document small abnormalties like tooth fractures in real-time. If you have to “see it to believe it”, then this is right up your alley! We can take high-resolution images to send to insurance companies for a claim or email it right to your inbox for your own records.
Digital Impressions
At Whitehaven Dental we pride ourselves in keeping up with the most advanced, cutting-edge technology. Our NEW digital scanner replaces the traditional dental impression techniques used for things like dental crowns, bite guards, and bleach trays. This addition to our dental office has proven to be a great benefit to both us and you.
Our digital scanner uses a laser to scan and measure distances from the tooth surface to acquire the image.
What does this mean for you, our patient?
Comfort: No more gooey impressions in your mouth.
Quality: A more accurate dental device (less adjustments).
Efficiency: A quicker turnaround time.
Plus, you can see your impressions right on the screen! How cool is that?
Digital X-rays
No more bulky, sharp films placed in your mouth? That’s right! We use a small digital sensor to take x-rays of your teeth and display them on a computer monitor instantaneously.
How it’s different from film
It’s faster: The image is immediately shown on the screen–no waiting for film processing, which cuts down on your appointment time.
Safer: Digital x-rays have 50-90% less radiation exposure than traditional x-rays.
More comfortable: The sensor is more comfortable than bite platesused in traditional x-rays. Also, because oral conditions can be magnified, this method provides bettervisibility and more accuracy in diagnosis. You can see what the doctor is seeing.
